PHILADELPHIA − The Eagles made three trades to ultimately land edge rusher Jalyx Hunt in the third round with pick No. 94 in the NFL draft. The first deal, moving up for Cooper DeJean, landed the Eagles the No. 78 pick. From there, the Eagles moved back from No. 86 and then again to No. 94. Hunt, who began his collegiate career as a safety at Cornell, is 6-4, 252 pounds. He had 6.5 sacks last season.

Former Texas A&M DL McKinnley Jackson (3) and Houston Christian LB Jalyx Hunt (13) converge to take down Notre Dame QB Sam Hartman (5) during the Reese's Senior Bowl in Mobile, Ala., on Saturday, Feb. 3, 2024.

Houston Christian Jalyx Hunt to Eagles NFL draft grade: Instant reaction

Grade: C

Why: The Eagles are taking a chance on Hunt developing into an edge rusher. And for his rookie season, he'll likely sit behind Bryce Huff, Josh Sweat, Nolan Smith and Brandon Graham. Graham, who's 36, has said this will be his final season. Hunt, who began his career as a safety, is clearly athletic enough to play the position. But can he develop physically to withstand offensive tackles? The Eagles ended up acquiring two extra fourth-round picks to draft h, perhaps hedging their bet with extra picks. And it's also likely they could have gotten him in that round.
